The coils have 2 flat sides that match up with the bottom of the pod. This means that the coil only goes in a certain way so make sure that you insert it properly. For one, the airflow slot is smaller. Secondly, there are airflow holes under the dial rather than the open slot on the Nord 4. This combination of airflow holes and a smaller airflow slot means that the Novo 4 draws less air and provides a much tighter draw than even previous Novo devices. There’s a small OLED screen located on the front panel and a small button just below it. This screen tells you your wattage, coil resistance, puff count, and battery life with percent.
The Smok Novo 4 Mini comes with an inbuilt 900mAh, which can be recharged via the USB Type C port on the base. It has a charging speed of 0.7A.
I have been waiting for this moment ever since I bought the first NORD pod.As much as I loved it at the time, I always hated the loose draw and big-gob mouthpiece.The Novo 4 has made up for all that the Nord failed on and with much better flavour. Scores
With the airflow open you get a tight MTL draw that is really nice at any wattage as it’s warm but not hot. Closing down the airflow makes the vapor much hotter and I found it most enjoyable to turn down the wattage when vaping with the airflow like this. No matter how you set it, if you’re a MTL vaper, you’re going to like the draw. The battery section is pretty solid. It has a long and curved shape, and it feels very sturdy. It should be able to withstand some moderate bangs and pumps. Just do not throw it around like it is one of those mods that looks like a football and can be treated like one. I was a little surprised that the Novo 4 only had an 800mAh battery considering it has a screen, so I was expecting the battery life to be a bit pants.Not the case so far, I’m getting around 400+ puffs between charges.I do notice the power drop off as the charge gets low but it is still useable.Charging time was pretty standard and rarely took over 45 minutes. Conclusion Thankfully Smok has finally realized it’s 2021 and the Novo 4 has Type-C charging. It charges in 90 minutes and does pass through charging so you can vape it while it charges. While plugged in the Novo 4 gives you the estimated charging time on the screen and shows you your current battery charge. It’s a really neat feature because it at least gives you an idea of how long it will take to charge. But the Caliburn A2 has a weaker 520 mah battery, and it only has one coil in the starter kit. Also, juice also gets through the mouthpiece. The Smok Novo 4 has a larger battery, two coils, and not issues with juice getting into the mouth. The pod for the Novo 4 Mini has a 2ml capacity, which I believe is the same in all regions. While that’s not the largest capacity it is enough for such a small device.Another minor gripe I have with the design is the LED light which is located just beneath the airflow control. The light is just to indicate battery status, but it’s too close to the mouthpiece to see clearly while you are vaping. I would’ve preferred it to have been positioned on the bottom section of the device.
The mouthpiece is spot on. It issimilar to the old Nord but is a lot smaller and feels MTL, smoothly contoured and comfortable with a reasonably narrow bore to make the draw feel very smooth.You could tell this is a mesh coil as the draw is always instant and intense, I think Smok made the right choice with 0.8Ω coils as I think it’s a perfect beginner pod as well as for experienced pod users. Smok’s quality can be all over the place but the Novo 4 is very well built. If you’ve read my Novo X review, you’ll see that I had some issues with the panels creaking and moving slightly which was extremely disappointing. My Novo 4 has none of these issues and feels very solid and well made. The only problem with the screen is that it is not very bright. While it is ok indoors, it can be hard to read outside, especially on a really sunny day. If you were expecting a radical redesign for the Novo 4 then you’re going to be disappointed. The Novo 4 looks virtually identical to previous Novo devices and retains the same shape and rounded edges. When it comes to e-liquid, we recommend using either a 50/50 or high PG e-liquid, with the pod and coil supporting both freebase and nic salt blends equally well. Simple to refill, each features a side filling port which when secured creates a tight seal that stops leaks from occurring. The 0.8 Ohm and 0.9 Ohm LP1 mesh coil feature a specially designed lattice build that can heat more e-liquid at a faster rate, improving flavour. However, the LP1 0.8 Ohm standard coil produces a more mellow flavour than the mesh version. Finally, the 1.2 Ohm LP1 coil produces the most discreet amount of vapour and feels the closest to a cigarette. The three seals on each coil prevent leaks from occurring when installed in the Novo 4 pod. The biggest and most noticeable design change is the addition of an airflow control dial just under where the pod sits. This dial is similar to the one on the Nord 4, but there are a few changes that make it more MTL oriented. The pod uses Smok’s LP1 coils, which push fit into the base of the pod. Smok has put extra O-rings on the base of the LP1 coils to ensure they are resistant to leaking. I can gladly say I’ve had no leaking or juice issues with the device in my time of using it.
