N-Strike Elite is a direct successor from the popular N-Strike series. Most original releases within the series featured upgraded versions of original N-Strike blasters. Great addition to my son's Nerf Gun collection! Since he's 12 years old there are very few things other than riding bike and video games that entertain older kids. I have mostly given up on "toys" even when they're supposed to be for "older kids and pre-teens". But my son asks for whatever the coolest, new model of Nerf Gun is each Christmas. They are a neighborhood favorite and this one is no different. My son really likes that it's easier to use and reload fast (compared to other models he already has) and it accepts the cheaper, basic darts (so he knows I am more willing to replace countless lost darts because replacement refills are cheap and easy to find). The neighborhood kids all ask my son to bring his Nerf Guns out and this one is the most sought after. Size is good, shoots well, doesn't jam, and is durable for older kids running around outside and banging it around. It gets left in the rain and dropped on sidewalks frequently and I've had no problems. There are a lot of modifications kids can do on this gun, as well and according to my son they are "very cool and easy". In turn, this leads to a model that kids could share between them. Older players can set it up to their personal preferences for epic battles with friends on the weekend. Then, perhaps younger siblings can strip it down and use the more comfortable design for casual play in the evenings. Finally, I just want to point out that the colors do vary. I got the mainly white version and though I didn't care, I was sort of surprised when I got it because I did not realize that the title stated that they could vary. The gun has 5 parts, 4 parts make the gun and the fifth one is the magazine that holds the bullets.

The big problem is that it does not have slam fire, which makes the rate of fire pretty slow and this is the major Achilles heel compared to the Alpha Trooper. Some people say that this allows you to regulate your rate of fire better. I would agree if we were talking auto vs semi-auto, but slam fire….seriously?

That alone helps the Pro Gelfire Mythic feel like the start of something big, but its other features elevate it even further. I want to go over a couple of important points here before you delve deeper into this Nerf N-Strike Elite Retaliator Blaster review. First of all, be aware that while this initially looks like a pretty standard, inoffensive option that could please anyone, there is niche appeal. This is an older model that has some really nice ideas and adaptable features but also some aspects that won’t work as well for all players.

Nerf Rival : Another set of pellets that will only fit Rival blasters (they're bigger than Hyper pellets, so won't work on those either). The barrel extension of the Retaliator is popular for integrating an underbarrel Rough Cut 2×4 as a master key.
