Description

Chantilly fragrance was created by perfumer Marcel Billot. It is known that he was one of the founders of the French Society of Perfumers, created in 1942 and was its first president. In the 1940s and 50s Houbigant emphasized the international development of the brand - from the USA and Brazil to China and Japan, Houbigant representative offices were opened all over Europe, and of course the first thing they did was to offer their new fragrance. The notes in this perfume start off with a hint of apricot, water lily, and apple. It’s such a soft, sweet fragrance that leaves behind a sweet aroma. This perfume includes heart notes of chocolate, guava, and tuberose. Then, it finishes with hints of vanilla and amber. Vera Wang Princess hasn’t been around as long as some of the other perfumes on this list, but it’s slowly making its mark as a timeless perfume. Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds In the beginning, the fragrance seems sweet, even overly sweet, despite the citrus - but the white spicy heart shines though sweetness, feeling rather solemn and majestic. It feels sublime and exalted, not earthly - like a bride at a wedding, or a ballet performance. With the smell of purity, powder, and the dust of a velvet theater curtain. Like Donna Tartt's books, like old orient. Like places and times you never knew, but they are there, as lively and beautiful as ever. I see why this is considered timeless. It has an enchanting quality about it that is gentle and alluring. It is ripe with the sweetness of vanilla and benzoin, further given complexity with incense, leather and sandalwood. Nothing like a good oriental spicy fragrance to put you in the mood for sweet nothings. Vintage Chantilly is certainly a scent for the richer ones, the older in body and mind, almost ritual, which unfolds slowly surprising you with a different aroma each time. It's for the woman who has accepted herself and is ready to search for deeper meanings in life. She is very mature, very classy woman who always wears Chanel couture, pantyhose.

When you’re wearing a perfume, it’s natural to want to spray it on your skin and your clothing. However, sometimes fabric can manipulate the smell of a fragrance. To get the best aroma from your perfume, allow it to combine with the natural oils from your body. Avoid spraying it on your clothes. Spritz the Perfume in Your Hair Chantilly is a classic feminine spray that has a very soft, sensual smell. It has hints of floral and sweet spices that heighten the senses. The aromas are from this fragrance are romantic and perfect for a night out on the town. How to Get Chantilly Perfume to Last You’ll love this soft, feminine fragrance. Heaven Sent was created and sold in the 1940s. It’s one of Dana’s classic perfumes. The aromas from this perfume are truly heavenly. It includes scents like apple blossom, bergamot, musk, amber, patchouli, and sandalwood. There are also hints of jasmine within this perfume. Heaven Sent is the perfect daytime fragrance because of its soft, powdery undertones. Vera Wang Princess The base seems quite suitable for men and women, reminiscent of classic fougere fragrances with a combination of coumarin, oakmoss, and non-sweet woody notes. I think it would be appropriate to recall the first Early American Old Spice (1937), which was created as a women's fragrance before becoming a classic of men's colognes - they are alikeeach other if the lavender and herbs are removed. Chantilly Perfume by Dana is a classic women’s perfume that debuted in 1941. Dana is a fragrance house that Javier Serra created in 1932. The company has a Spanish foundation, but it relocated to Paris during the boom of the fashion industry. Over many years, the Dana brand released various fragrances in the years following World War II.

not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage arising under these terms and This perfume is basically like a less expensive dupe of a Classic Guerlain like Shalimar or Mitsouko, although I would say it actually reminds me of Mitsouko a bit more. To get the most out of your Chantilly perfume, spray it on your skin immediately after a shower. Once you’ve taken a bath and dried off, spritz it onto your skin. This allows for the fragrance to absorb into your pores, making it last a lot longer. Spray it on Your Pulse Points Marcel MIllot is credited with making this perfume, which is part of the "lot to talk about" I mentioned at the beginning. He is a virtual unknown to the world of perfumery, despite having been a key collaborator on several important perfumes of the era, like Amour Amour by Jean Patou (1925), which is credited solely to Henri Alméras. Millot also bares no relation to the house of F MIllot founded by Felix Millot and famously perfumed for by Jean Desprez for a time. Marcel Millot in an article written in 1966 for American Perfumer and Cosmetics, talks about his involvement with Chantilly being a collaborative one as well, implying most perfumes made in the labs he worked during that period were typically not purely solo efforts. In any case, whoever the unknown co-contributors to Chantilly are, they helped give Millot his sole perfume credit. As for the fragrance itself, Chantilly is fairly typical for the time, being a mash-up of chypre elements and oriental elements, a compromise between Chypre de Coty (1917), Chanel No. 5 (1921), and Guerlain Shalimar (1925) as it were. This kitchen sink of notes opens with aldehydes, because of course it does, and then moves through sweet citruses of orange, lemon, and neroli, before moving to indolic florals. The rose and jasmin bring their virility, which is flanked by a fat carnation note and given a slight soapy edge of orris. The powdery resinous base of benzoin, vanilla, and tonka is boosted by a Mousse de Saxe leather note full of oakmoss and warmed with sandalwood. The leather here isn't butch per se, but it adds a unique punch. In it's original form, Chantilly was very expense, and rather expensive-smelling too, but a softer and more-glowing counterpart to aforementioned women's classics. Wear time and projection vary by vintage, but there isn't a weak formula of this anywhere, just strong and stronger. Best use is probably in colder months. Either way, you're going to smell like a madam, and you know what kind I mean.

Another thought on this beautiful classic perfume. As you know searching for vintage fragrances online can be a bit scary, at least it is for me. You never know. 2 perfumes that I have in my collection that give me the Houbigant Chantilly vibe are Jean Patou Collection Heritage Chaldée and Chanel Le Lion Eau de Parfum They both have that warm/vanilla/resin base over citrus/florals. Chaldee is quite inexpensive considering the market today and can be found easily at Fragrancenet.com etc... If you loved vintage Houbigant Chantilly like I do/did and miss it seek either Chaldee or Le Lion out. I think it will fill that void for you. The next time I hauled it out I thought 'This is seriously Old Lady territory, yes, but it does get nicer after a while. I think I sense something else under all that soap, not sure what it is but maybe it's not so bad as I thought?' Chanel No. 5 is another popular fragrance that’s been around for many decades. It has a powdery floral scent that’s highlighted by neroli, jasmine, and sandalwood. This fragrant perfume has been around since 1921, and it is the epitome of femininity. Chanel No. 5 is an extravagant aroma that features citrus top notes. It includes a touch of vanilla and leaves an incredible scent trail. Tabu Our liability is limited and excluded to the maximum extent permitted under applicable law. We will Then, life goes on and other things take my attention away from fragrance for a while. I wander into my bedroom and see the tiny bottle of Chantilly sitting on the shelf. Well, worth one more try, I say to myself. So I try it again. This time, although I still find the initial blast of soapiness really overpowering, it does die down in a bit and underneath there is a lovely tinge of lemon. The jarring notes tone down a little more and some nice floral comes up although the soapiness is still very strong for me. Upon drying down it becomes much nicer and smooth with some nice vanilla-y notes.

Instead, the fragrance has been given a powdery whiteness with carnation and spicy eugenol, and the floral bouquet has been increased in size, and complemented with sweet honeyed orange blossom. The Chantilly fragrance, although first released by Houbigant, was also produced by other brands. You can find Chantilly Houbigant (1941-1989), Chantilly Parquet Parfums (1989-1993), and simply Chantilly (1993-1999), which was produced by Renaissance Cosmetics and Dana. Smelling the modern day drugstore version of Chantilly (by Dana, if I remember correctly) gives one a good idea what "smells like a cheap perfume" means (said in that certain tone and with a certain look on my mother's face). This was not what Houbigant, the original house that launched Chantilly in 1941 had in mind. RED NO. 4 (CI 14700), FD&C YELLOW NO. 5 (CI 19140), FD&C BLUE NO. 1 (CI 42090), D&C GREEN NO. 5 (CI 61570) What Does Chantilly Perfume Smell Like? The Chantilly composition I was able to meet (Essence de Chantilly, Parfum de Toilette, late 1960s - early 1970s, "watch-type" bottle below) can be described based on the citrus-amber standard of Emeraude-Shalimar, in which the fluffy vanilla and resinous oriental parts were reduced.

As others have pointed out, the affordable Chantilly is several classics rolled into one without coming across as cheap or derivative. It opens with a heavy dose of aldehydes and lemon balanced with a sweet, spicy vanilla musk. The development on my skin, however, is disjointed as the aldehydes remain jagged and piercing next to the sweet oriental base. The lemon curdles the cloying cream as the composition falls apart. the photography may be of a different size of the same product. It’s a fragrance that’s been around since the 1940s, and it’s a go-to perfume for many women. When you wear this fragrance, you’ll instantly feel sensual yet strong.
